We bought a training collar for our 1 1/2 year old blue healer who barks at almost everyone but me and my girlfriend. The change in her attitude was amazing. I tested the collar on myself before I even thought about putting it on my dog and I can say with confidence that it will not harm your dog although it will startle him the first few times you use it could. The lowest setting produces a very light tingling sensation, while the highest setting produces a strong tingling sensation. There are 12 settings: 1 is the lowest and 12 is the highest, and I use 5 or 6 (the 3-position switch on the side effectively selects the size of the dog, and buttons 1-4 select the intensity of the hit for the selected size). This is the lowest setting my dog will respond to. Having only used it a couple of times, I can just squeak when she barks or even thinks she can, and she knows instantly that if she doesn't stop, a shock will follow. I've only had to use a really shocking feature a few times. I definitely recommend teaching your dog that the peep precedes the shock so that after he knows, he doesn't need a shock at all. My only complaint with this product is that the remote only works 2/3 of the time.
