The straps are strong and appear to be more durable than the straps on the boots they still replace. However, I'd recommend the usual handyman tools: jewelry pliers for removing what's left of the original, and BOTH jewelry pliers (for beginners, the ones you use to replace jump rings on necklaces and bracelets) here, too, not for dirt. with what is in the picture. Non-craftsman: Be careful not to open it TOO much - I went a little further than I should have on the second one and it took me a while to circle it with pliers to close it. However, it closed tightly and securely with no sign of cracking caused by my mistake, and the alloy doesn't feel cheap or flimsy to me. (Artisans who have ever come across cheap finds know EXACTLY what I am talking about when I mention these cracks). Note to all: I REALLY had to do some work on the hole in my foot to open it up wide enough. At least slip the ring through. The ribs on either end of the ring where it connects to the zip itself should of course add strength to the zip, but this can be a bit of a hassle for others working with a zip of the same size. However, once they went through this hole, they reunited like in a dream and hung together normally. So, if that little flair is REALLY giving someone trouble, I'd recommend just sticking one end of a pair of pliers through the hole in the zipper foot you want to put it in and giving a few squeezes to bring the little tab inside and expand his a bit. No pulling needed, just: spread, open and twist the pliers, knead again, open and twist the pliers, etc. etc. etc. until you get as far around the hole as you can. It was literally ALL I needed to get through the little bouncy ring. (I also held the boot in one hand and used pliers to thread it more tightly with the other). In any case, it's over after that! As with many other tricks: the entire procedure took less time than its description. Would recommend her easily. In fact, I'm honestly considering the possibility of changing the tension on my NEW boots because I honestly think they could look a little better than what they came with. Many Thanks.
