A few years ago when my wife and I retired, we rekindled our passion for photography; in our case a nature photo. Our longest lens at the time was the 400mm f5.6 but it was sharp and we really enjoyed the images it produced. We made the mistake of buying a cheap gimbal but were dismayed and disappointed by the poor quality and rough finish. We then purchased a quality side mount and were pleased with the results. Over the next few years we made a lot of great recordings. Lens, camera, grip and flash. A lot of research into what was on the market led me to Promediagear.com. After much discussion, comparison, and reading reviews and specs, I settled on a full-suspension katana. This gimbal reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. Beauty through stunning workmanship and flawless finishes. This is truly a work of art. Four oil-lubricated plain bearings withstand tilting and swiveling loads. Large soft grips hold the gimbal in place or provide the necessary resistance to stabilize the lens when capturing moving subjects. The ride is remarkably smooth and there is absolutely no play in the bearings. Just by looking at it you can tell that a lot of effort has gone into making this stabilizer beautiful. "The Beast" is the result of a robust design. This thing looks like it can handle anything you can put on it with absolute confidence. The katana was designed to accommodate a large amount of gear while saving weight without sacrificing strength. The katana weighs less than five pounds but is mounted on a quality tripod with the right weight capacity. There is no more stable and easy-to-use platform for your largest lens and camera. The Katana is on the higher end of the price range, but considering the hardware costs $15,000, why trust anything less? Add to that their excellent customer support and you have a winner. UPDATE: I've been using this stabilizer with my heavy 600mm f4 for three years. Not a single complaint. Still smooth as butter and I can see they've updated the weight rating. This shit is for life.
