LARGE. Has some weight but not the heaviest fast prime I've ever used - there are some real boat anchors out there that will try to snap your wrists. It's not going to happen. A slight play in the focus ring that some people might not even notice until pointed out. Makes a slight click when you try to rock it back and forth. Not a problem, but not with older Canon FD or FDn lenses either. I don't know if there's a lot of plastic on the outside of this lens, or if the coatings are just that - the manufacturer mentions aluminum and if there is then I think the weight savings probably isn't worth it as a high-end product to feel. The filter thread is not so good to unscrew something. The focus ring is nice and smooth. Both the focus ring and aperture ring rotate very easily, and the focus is 100% internal - nothing but the focus ring rotates on the outside of the lens, and the ring doesn't move forward or backward as you rotate it. Foot means you can actually get decent background blur if you want an insanely distorted perspective on the subject. There's no hard stop at infinity, but focus at infinity is marked on the focus ring. I'm using this in stop metering mode, inherited from a pair of old Canon FD mount SLRs. It gets the job done and even at full price would be significantly cheaper than the Canon FD 24mm F/1.4L which, unlike that lens, has an auto iris feature and arguably better overall build quality. But the optics of this lens are supposedly better, at least in a kind of coma at the edges of the frame. I bought the film version for the photo because it came at a significant discount. It's a decent lens overall, but the lens hood has a tendency to fall off and sometimes it detaches and the large petals cover two corners of your frame. It's annoying, but I started holding it in place with some crumpled tissue paper. Not the most elegant solution, but functional. A friend of mine with the closest aps-c equivalent (Rokinon 16mm f/2) reported a similar issue with his lens hood, so I'm wondering if this is a fairly common problem with Samyang/Rokinon lenses. While retaining the 4 star rating, this is a great jar with some features.
