It actually keeps the laptop a few inches off the bottom of the bag, so the laptop is protected even when it's on the floor. It also has a dedicated tablet case. The main compartment is extra large to carry any books or folders you need. External pockets are ideal for easy access to items you need quickly. The bag is very comfortable to carry, even when fully loaded. I've tried several backpacks recently and none offered the combination of storage, organization, style and convenience that this bag offers. An excellent choice for office workers and students.
