I needed to buy a portable charger for my photorealism class and my friend had one similar to this little guy. This little sharpener is great for travel, so you can take it to school or on the go. I used this sharpener with the batteries that came with it in January and the batteries died in mid April or early May. I wasn't expecting the batteries to last this long considering I use them almost every day to keep up with my tasks. That's a little soldier. There is a lock at the tip of the sharpener that keeps all shavings in the sharpener. You just turn to the left and you can easily clean it by tapping the bottom like a little kid. Be careful about stuffing the sharpener too full as this will cause the little fella to stop sharpening your pencils and you will have to use your fingers to push out any shavings. When I first opened the box it contained a small plastic bag with batteries and a spare sharpener which I have not yet replaced. So far in the last 5 months the sharpener doesn't seem to be changed (in my opinion). He sharpens and sharpens pencils very quickly, which was very important for my art class. She sharpens crayons just as quickly and well, in case you're wondering. After a few months of owning this sharpener, your batteries will be dead! But no worry! There is a small switch on the side of the sharpener! On the left is the battery icon (trust me, it's there! It's a travel sharpener so it's showing some wear) and on the right is a hand icon. If your battery is low or you're in the library and this is the only sharpener you have: just switch to the hand icon and clicking the pencil will not turn on the sharpener. You can use it like a traditional hand sharpener and it sharpens pencils just as quickly. I used this feature to save batteries or when I went outside to draw. It's a bit noisy, but not as loud as those giant electric spikes in the classrooms. I used this at my school's student union while I was working on my art assignments, and I didn't get any surprised looks or stares when I used it (or maybe my classmates just didn't care). I know this is a long review. for a sharpener, but if you're looking for something small and easily portable, then this is what you need! I carry it in a large bag with sketchbooks or in my school backpack. Batteries and a spare sharpener are included in the set. Regarding shipping, I took advantage of the student membership free trial to get one for school soon.
