This is a stronger, more versatile version of the "flip link" used to place a light at the end of an arrow. It's physically hard - perhaps the only downside - but it's extremely hard for the job. Large plastic-coated metal handle and durable parts allow for confident tightening. I think this is a unique Impact design and not a fake by Manfrotto or any other major designer.
