The iShoot Macro Focus Guide is very well made and great value for money. It is made of high quality materials that have undergone precise processing. The mechanism has very little play, which is very important when shooting macro. The rail uses a worm drive design, which allows you to precisely adjust the distance of the lens from the object. Even with a heavy lens on the camera (Canon MP-E 65 on an 80D body) I did not experience any slipping downhill when tilting the lens down - presumably due to friction between the threaded rod, bearings and the threaded clamp mounted in the slider. The entire mechanism is open, allowing cleaning and lubrication if necessary. I would recommend storing the splint in a dust free place so it doesn't need to be cleaned. A problem with this design is that it is possible to touch the lubricated parts of the rail, so care must be taken to avoid getting the lube on other photographic equipment. The rail can be mounted directly to a tripod's ARCA clamp, or you can use the threaded hole on the bottom of the rail to mount any quick release plate. The camera or lens attaches to the rail with an ARCA quick release plate (not included). The clamp at the top of the guide holds the quick release plate securely without any noticeable play. It's also possible to mount a second iShoot focus bar vertically on the first rail using the same clamp if you want controlled side-to-side movement (I haven't tried this). Adjusts the lens-to-subject distance (and thus the area that is in focus). You turn the knob on either end of the rail. The slider moves smoothly and holds its position well. The handles are well made from high quality aluminum and machined to provide a very secure grip. It's nice to see the area in focus moving along the subject when looking through the viewfinder. For larger movements, you can squeeze the quick-release lever on the side of the slider. This will loosen the threaded clamp from the drive rod, allowing you to quickly retract and extend the camera/lens. The quick release lever can be locked to prevent accidents. There is also a handle on the other side of the slider that can be used to lock the slider in position. I find the iShoot Macro Focus Guide easy to use, accurate, and very well done. Obviously, it's not as complex as the $500 programmable electric focus rails, but you can't beat the value for money. Highly recommended for photographers looking for easy manual focus tracking.
