I bought these shoes for a trip to a tropical area where I knew I would need both water boots and light walking shoes for my planned excursions. I've also planned to visit my hotel's gym from time to time and I need running shoes for that too. My goal is to always pack as lightly as possible, and every traveler knows that shoes and hiking boots take up the most space in luggage. After looking at countless pairs of water shoes on Amazon, I settled on these because they most promise to meet all three needs! Luckily I was right - these shoes were PERFECT for all of these uses. I used them to hike the sharp lava rock at the snorkel site. I also wore them with thin socks to do a 4 hour trail with lots of rocks/light dirt/small creek crossings. And finally, I dress them up with socks to go to the hotel gym. I only had a small "hot spot" on the inside of my heel, but that could be due to sand getting in and chafing it. I'm not sure. The association cleared it up very quickly. After a day in the water I washed them off and left them on deck to dry and within hours they were ready to go. I was so excited about this purchase - it's always risky wearing new shoes on a trip but it was a complete success.
