Review on ConnectPRO UR 12 KIT 2 Port Switch Cables by Scot Hughes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well built KVM switch

This KVM switch has a very solid construction - metal body, high quality cables and push button switch (button switch is better than soft switch in my opinion). Due to its weight, it is not pulled by cables. It's powered via USB connections, but it's also self-powered, which is nice. It also has an additional USB port that you can use to share another USB device like a webcam or USB microphone. What's really nice is that I actually connect this USB port to my Dell monitor using a built in USB hub so I now have 4 extra USB ports. I had a "blue screen of death" for several days when switching between computers after installing this KVM switch, but the problem went away after I unplugged the old webcam that was connected to the switch. If you are using Windows, it takes a few seconds for the mouse and keyboard to become active after switching. For Linux, this takes almost no time. If you experience poor video quality (e.g. blurring), try changing your monitor settings. When I first plugged it in the resolution was poor, it looked fuzzy. But after "auto-tuning" on my monitor, it became very sharp. ConnectPro support seems to be responsive. I emailed them a few times about the blue screen of death issue and got quick replies. Their tech support is also on skype although I have never tried speaking to them. The only real downside of this KVM switch is USB 1.0 instead of USB 2.0. Windows XP complains about this every time you switch to it. For this reason I give this switch 4 stars. By the way, does anyone know why the indicator button shows half red and half green when toggled to it? This contradicts common engineering practice.
