Good set of small USB 2.0 flash drives

This is a small set of USB 2.0 flash drives. They are supplied in a compact and handy plastic case. I believe drives of this size are mainly used for transferring files between work and home or between computers. They have a nice rotating metal cover to protect the plug when worn. There is a small hole on one end for attaching a lanyard (however, this is a small hole so the size of the lanyard may be limited). I had five different colors: red, orange, yellow, blue and black. Interestingly, the red, orange, and yellow drives lit up when attached, flickered when in use, and turned off when not mounted. The black and blue rims were not made (perhaps the coloring is too dark to let the light through). Windows reports that they are formatted as FAT32 from the factory and have a formatted size of 7.48GB (I assume you understand the controversy over manufacturer claims on drive sizes, so I won't go into that). The description states that they have a read speed of 21 MB/s. To test this, I used the open source Crystal Disk Mark 8 tool to test two drives, each with two different test configurations. I've attached the results - to be honest I'm not the best at judging results so I'll leave that to you. Tests seem to show that the specified 21 MB/s can be reached without any problems. Is that a good value? I really can't answer that question - at thirteen dollars and change for five drives, that seems like a good deal, but considering there's a competitor out there that has a $30 USB 3.0 flash drive is selling which he claims contains 2TB of data, I have no idea how they compare prices at the moment. You have to decide for yourself.

Pros
  • USB flash drives
Cons
  • Big and bulky
