The tension on these holders is too strong so you can't fold the cards well enough to hold more than a small hand; not enough for a canasta. I took some kitchen utensils and flattened the plastic to make it easier to fold. (You have to push hard and work bit by bit to open the gap.) And with two each, Mom and I can play canasta with them and hold quite a few cards. Since the two pieces are slotted I figured it would be easy to loosen the screw and open the gap, but it's not designed for that unless you widen the slots.
