Over the years I have had several cold brew coffee makers from different manufacturers. One broke and the others were cheaply made to allow the sludge to get through the filter even with coarsely ground beans. This unit was by far the best cold brew coffee maker I have ever owned and the difference is how fine the filter mesh is. Silt at the bottom of the jar. Anyway, I have almost no sludge whereas with other brewers I would have to pour out the last cup (or more!) because the amount of slurry left at the bottom was undrinkable. My recipe: I put 10 teaspoons of coarse beer. put ground coffee in a strainer, fill with water, leave on the table for an hour, then stir the water and beans mixture, add more water (as the beans absorb water) and put in the sink. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours to complete the brewing process. After 24+ hours I pour all the coffee into jars and then reuse the beans in the secondary brewing filter. Instead of topping up with water, I only top up to cover the beans. I repeat this process a few times a week so I never run out of coffee.
