Not only does this keep my phone in a case, it's not a bulky case, it also charges my phone at the same time. I had a similar phone mount that claims to charge phones quickly but never really does and never holds my phone that well. Not so with this car mount. Not only does it hold my phone, but it also charges it quickly. Drive 2 hours to work and 2 hours home. During those 2 hours, even before I hit the 1 hour mark, my phone is always 100% charged. My phone is usually dead or nearby and this charges my phone and keeps it charged throughout the trip. What I like about this mount is that it doesn't completely block the vent, but once I attach it to the vent, this car mount doesn't move easily until you release the latch.
