I bought these for my 7 year old son to see how he likes them, my sons have mixed and don't know much about their own hair, so i started working with him on this hair journey as he grows it out. His father is also mixed race but never does anything with his hair other than trimming it. I'm a white female so I don't know much about black hair care but after much searching and lots of tutorials and youtube videos we wanted to try the spiral comb while he's still short his hair is coarse. 1.5"-2" long. We've used a curling sponge in the past, but I feel like it soaked up the product more than anything else. I personally wanted to buy the Twist it up brush, but didn't have the extra $25 to give it a try at the time. It comes in 2 packs and works great. I definitely plan on buying the Twist it up brush to help with the black deal and its other features, but if you like me and want to try it before then this is definitely a good product. With this brand we don't bother with the comb/brush, the teeth are too close together for his gutted hair, we definitely need to use a comb with wider teeth if they get tangled, but as for the curl comb part (mesh), it does the job. The plastic is thick and durable, I haven't noticed any flexing during use. It takes a few rounds (a few minutes, beauty takes time) and the right products to keep it in place, but I promise it works. I have never used it on dry hair. I almost always use it after he gets out of the shower or wets his hair with a spray bottle. which direction to twist (sometimes it's both directions!) and other videos on which products to use, depending on hair type, to keep the hairstyle in place.
