I've tried using this thermometer about 6 times in the last few months. Every time I use it the battery dies. There's no real on/off switch, so there's some sort of vampiric battery drain. Coin boxes are not very common in my house so finding a new one to use the thermometer is very frustrating. The unit arrived looking just like the original. I put new quality batteries in both devices and left them for a few weeks. When I tried to turn on the old one, it was dead. The swap worked fine though. I must have gotten a defective block with the first one. I'll track it to see how it works.
