This will probably go down in history as the best purchase of my life. As a woman struggling with PCOS, I have had bad experiences with facial hair for many years. I'm not talking about peachy hair or even light brown hair, but dark, coarse hair in the style of male facial hair. Let's just say scarves, turtlenecks, lots of makeup, shaving, plucking, electrolysis, avoiding nocturnal activities, and avoiding direct sunlight while talking to people up close have been a big part of my life. It definitely leaves you in a state of hiding and the sheer amount of money you spend to keep it running is just ridiculous. In addition, I have actually done IPL professionally and spent thousands. I have had great success with professional IPL treatments and for the first time in my life I am hair removal free! There was no hair on my face other than a few small areas that needed grooming (fairly manageable and not very noticeable). I was very happy. However, after having two children, the new hair came back with a vengeance and it was worse than ever. I have found that with the cost of pregnancy and babies I can no longer afford expensive professional IPL treatments. I decided to give up and go back to wearing turtlenecks for the summer. But then I stumbled across homemade IPL products and felt a new glimmer of hope. After months of research I settled on this product, the Remington I-Light. Of all the products I could use, this one seems to get the most reviews for successfully removing coarse facial hair on both men and women. With great trepidation I bought it. And it was the BEST Amazon purchase (or purchase ever) I've made. After just one treatment I noticed results. After two DRAMATIC results. My face was smooth (in places so thick with hair that even shaving couldn't hide them). Plus, as many reviewers say, hair will thin out if it grows back at all (nice bonus). I am preparing for my third treatment next week and I believe it will continue to amaze me. In comparison, professional treatments cost between $200 and $300 for a full treatment of the chin, neck, lips, and cheeks (most often the entire face). In some regions I find it even more expensive! So the fact that you can buy this product for almost the price of a treatment is not difficult at all. A few details to know: 1. I have the perfect complexion and hair for this device (light skin, dark coarse hair) - if you have darker skin or light hair - this may not work or even work at all .2. I follow the directions and wait two weeks between treatments.3. I use it on the highest level and it's uncomfortable. A snap of a rubber band or a bee sting is a good description. Icing in advance helps, and DO NOT drink caffeinated beverages beforehand (advice from a professional IPL specialist I know) - as it makes the nerve endings more sensitive. Taking Ib profen beforehand may also mitigate the effects (but of course talk to your doctor about it).3. If you smell a faint burning odor, it means the hair is being processed, especially if it hasn't been pre-shaved close enough to the skin. The smell is unpleasant but not harmful to anything except your hair (that's the point). However, driving over the same area too many times can result in a blister burn. Therefore, plan your itinerary carefully (if burns are very minor, they heal quickly, but are easily avoided if you are careful).4. The first treatment I did resulted in lots of red bumps and irritation (not burns but ingrown bumps) - and for a few days the hair seemed to get worse. I was very nervous but I waited and thankfully my hair started falling out. The redness has also gone down. It can take up to 12 days for the hair to grow back, during which time it MAY become thicker (don't lose hope, this is part of the process). Less redness, faster results with each procedure.5. Even with an almost smooth face, I know I need to touch up my skin every month or some of the hair will come back. It is therefore important to know that the actual application of the laser will become part of your life in the long term. I will be doing a monthly treatment every day instead of shaving and plucking daily (or twice a day!)! I have found this product to work as well or even better than the professional treatments I have had (and I have been very happy with those treatments too!). I don't necessarily think it's because it's such a powerful machine - in fact I know my face so well I know what to focus on - so it's such a better experience. Also less embarrassment! All in all, I cannot praise this product enough. The only downside I see is the discomfort (but it's worth it). I guess the shape of the device might cause wrist pain after a while, especially at awkward angles, but that's knitting. Everyone is so different and I can't guarantee my results will be yours, but if you're a woman who hides your face from the world, you have nothing to lose! I hope you try it!
