Not working: Valves

Shower leaking. Expensive to fix due to the plumber having to knock out the wall, advised me to buy a shower shutoff valve until I have time to pay for the major repairs. Shut-off valve did not work. leaks. The plumber checked and said the valve was poor quality and cheap. Went to Home Depot and bought one for the same price which stopped the leak.
