I've been using a Mitutoyo caliper for about 25 years, but it's only recently that it started giving insane readings. I cleaned it thoroughly, replaced the battery, etc., but nothing restored its health, so there was no other option but to buy another one. (I do a lot of 3D printing and vernier calipers are a must). Fastener Cal had good reviews and was very cheap. I particularly like the 4 modes: Metric, Inches, Fractions and Rounded Fractions. Also, it turns off automatically after about 15 minutes to save battery power (something Mitutoyo lacked). The LCD is very large and easy to read, but the unit's body is about twice as thick as my previous instrument. This makes it look unwieldy, but this in no way limits its use. It resets very quickly and provides very stable and accurate results. The knurled wheel runs smoothly and the locking screw works as it should. The body of the tool is plastic and while I would have preferred metal, for the price I'm pretty happy with it. I find it waterproof; I haven't tested it - and don't intend to, but if my hands are sweaty I'm not worried.
