Would give 0 stars if we could. We tried very hard to keep this Victrola music system - even ordered a second one hoping the first one we received was just a defective lemon, but both were terribly annoying and had to be sent back! At first glance out of the box they look even better than expected, with a very nice solid wood body and glossy finish. I set it up in 5 minutes and tried out the FM radio, reception was very clear even without unwinding the wired antenna. I'm clear too. The cassette player worked great, as did the turntable. And the sound from the speakers was surprisingly rich and very clear. However, that great first impression was marred when we realized that we must have gotten one of the units mentioned by other reviewers with a faulty volume control, because at the lowest volume level of "1" it was so loud we could barely hear a normal conversation in the same mode. Room. Forget listening quietly while you read or work on something, and NO, we're not old people who just hate loud music! We love loud music when we want it loud, but a volume of "1" on this device equates to a volume of 5 to 7 on other audio devices. Do not exaggerate. However, we liked the look of the device and the sound was actually quite pleasant, even if it was a bit too loud. So we tried another device and thought it had to be better and guess what was worse and even louder! Same problem with volume at lower levels plus now a new problem with very unresponsive function keys. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. You know this is a very bad sign for any electronic device as it rarely gets better. So Block 2 was also returned. As always, Revain has been amazing with a comeback. Such a shame. It could be great if the manufacturer didn't use the cheapest quality parts just to save pennies but wasted a very nice wooden box. Trust the reviewers who say they're just junk in a nice closet and don't buy them. Most likely, even if they work correctly, unfortunately this is not the case for long.
