I LOVE this camera. There. I said it. Update December 10th: DxO has added a new firmware update for the camera and software. This is the first major update. I haven't checked the fixes and improvements, but I'm happy to say that this camera no longer lags after shooting! That was my biggest dislike of using a camera. I can't express how happy I am about it. I have to read the update notes to see the full list of improvements. Very happy. I added 3 new photos from a trip to New Orleans a few days ago. When I first read about DxO ONE a while ago (before pre-orders), I hated it. Furious. I've been a photographer for about 25 years, both amateur and professional. Both cinematic and digital. Photography flows through my veins. When I first read about DxO ONE I thought it would be a disaster. Its shape was strange. It only works with iPhones (and this is the current charging/docking port). It looks like it will fit oddly. You need an app to make it work. This list has no end. BUT I've always had a thing for small, easy-to-use cameras that take great photos. Boutique Point and Shooting in particular. I love them not only because high-end P&S cameras not only take great photos and allow manual control when needed, but are generally durable and of high quality. So that part of me said give DxO a shot. On paper, despite all the quarks, it might suit me. As the pre-order months dragged on, I started to hate them less and become more interested in what DxO had to offer me as a potentially great travel camera. Despite all the early reviews, I started to keep an open mind, eventually gave in and pre-ordered the damn thing. Fast forward a little over a month. This camera is now an integral part of my life. I can't tell you how important this camera has become to me. Most of my photography is currently based around sharing my experiences with family and friends through social media. Doing this with a great photo is a joy. I no longer have to rely on mediocre cell phone camera shots and hope to be able to edit them to make them look nicer. DxO ONE captures stunning JPEG images straight from the camera. RAW files are an added bonus. Nothing I know of can capture such high quality RAW images. It's a real pleasure. Add some great photo editing apps like VSCO to your phone and you have a digital darkroom on the go. They really are a pleasure to use. I've been looking for a tiny camera that takes phenomenal photos for a long time. Some people claim that the Sony QX10/100 cameras are just as good or even better. You are not. I have used them. Wireless is slow and buggy, and their damn size is too big and oddly shaped to be portable. It's like carrying a fixed lens in your pocket to scream out loud. Of course, the DxO ONE isn't perfect, but despite the quarks and bugs (sometimes freezing, slow photo transfer times to phone), the DxO ONE is my best bet for leaving both DSLRs and P&S cameras at home. It's a tiny little thing that can take just as good photos if you're happy with your focal length. I love it. I can't wait to see what DxO has in store for their successor!
