Fun swimwear but a bit big

I bought these for my 6 year old because he has been wanting a swimsuit with an American flag on it for the past few years. I paid $18.99 for them, so I was a little upset to see them for only $9.99 today. In any case, I chose the average size based on the company's answers that said the size depends on the size of the waist. Wednesday is a bit big for my boyfriend but he'll probably have them for 2 more years so $18.99 will probably pay off in the long run. :) He likes that the shorts have pockets. He stuffs in his goggles and swim toy before stepping into the pool. There is a drawstring, although I believe it's useless now. Growing a little shorts can make a difference. I felt the white stripes appeared a little pink, like the red was shifting into white a little bit. My husband and my two sons totally disagree, so who knows if that's true. The white still looks a bit pink to me but the kid loves the shorts so I just ignore them. In general, these are good swimming trunks. My son sits on the edge of the pool (concrete) and I didn't notice any tears in the fabric at all, which is a plus. But the kid likes the shorts so I just ignore them.
