Review on LEDwholesalers 6-Pack Malibu 1484AWWx6 Landscape Replacement Lights by Michael Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This lamp is a great replacement for the old style wedge lamps and should last a lot longer.

These lights fit neatly into my old Malibu garden lights and don't hang around at all. A few people mentioned that they dangled a bit in their mounts and had to play with the setting a bit, but I didn't have that problem. I used to use 7-10 watt wedge shaped incandescent bulbs depending on what is available at a large store. These LED replacement bulbs use much less power and have the same brightness as incandescent bulbs in the 7-10W range. I look forward to not changing these headlights for a long time. I know that many people face the problem of light bulbs burning out quickly. I used to have lamps that only lasted a few months. It's actually not entirely the fault of the lightbulbs. Most people go out and buy a low voltage landscaping transformer and end up with a more powerful transformer than they need because they want something that can one day increase the number of light sources. The problem is that the old ones are unregulated. They output the nominal voltage only when the load is close to the maximum power. If you only use a few bulbs, the transformer will put out a higher voltage than they are rated for. So if you have a 300w transformer like mine and are using (5) 10w bulbs, only load that 300w transformer with about a 50w load. In my case, the transformer was actually putting out almost 14 volts to that load, which was being lit by the indicators. When the voltage across the bulb is higher, the bulb draws more current. So now it's operating at a higher voltage and current than originally intended. Your 10 watt lightbulb can run at 15 watts or more and burn out quickly because it's overloaded with a transformer putting out too much voltage. I solved this problem a few years ago by finding a 300 watt transformer with an 11 volt output tap. Even with a lower load, the output voltage is only about 12.5 volts. My light bulbs started working for almost a year. I think you can now also buy adjustable transformers, but I guess they are more expensive to buy. These LED bulbs are either self-regulating or are more tolerant of higher loads, allowing them to last longer in outdoor fixtures where older bulbs have burned out. I inserted an image. Of the 3 bulbs in the picture, the bottom two bulbs are LED bulbs and the top one is an old style 10 watt bulb. The picture isn't perfect, but basically the color is almost identical, and the LED bulbs put out slightly less light than the older 10-watt bulbs. In everyday use, there is no noticeable difference at all. This lamp is a great replacement for the old style wedge lamps and should last a lot longer. Mine has been in use for about 2-1/2 months and none have failed yet. With a longer service life and lower energy consumption, they will pay for themselves over time.
