I was looking at the cheapest distillers offered on Walmart, but there were too many people unhappy with them, so I settled on this one. I'm glad I did. I have been using it for over 6 months now. I have followed the advice of others and don't let it run dry although it did once and shut itself off with no problem. I start by filling it with hot water to get a jump start, and set a timer for 4 hours 45 minutes, and that leaves a small amount in the bottom of the 1 gallon tank. After a number of uses a scale does form inside the tank, but the cleaner they send with it works miracles, and it cleans fast to amazing like new condition with no scrubbing necessary. I have made about 3 gallons a week for over 70 gallons during the last 6 months. So far I have not replaced the charcoal filter because the taste is still perfect. More filters also came with it, and they are cheap anyway. I am totally happy with this purchase, and would definitely buy it again.
