This may or may not work depending on what type of phone case you have. The recording depth is not very large. I have a Droid 2 with an Otterbox commuter case and it won't hold it. It also doesn't hold a new iPhone in an Otterbox case. It barely holds my husband's old Galaxy Note 4 in the commuter case (the case isn't as curved). If they extend the arms and use a rare earth magnet (instead of the 3" stone currently attached) this could be a viable product. I will be ordering and modifying my own rare earth magnet. Tried a regular magnet with a smaller diameter. magnet, and it's not enough to stop my droid from sliding out of the gym. Good idea with the swirl. That's why I ordered the product
