Review on πŸ’‘ Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA Tactical Light – 350 Lumens, Dual Fuel, Black by Mike Starling

Revainrating 5 out of 5

dueling fuel? More like 5 types of fuel!

Updated 5/2021. Still use all kinds of batteries in the light and it works fine. I've had other lights that I prefer, but this little guy pops up in the rotation from time to time. ******* This is a great flashlight for several reasons. I keep one in all CR123 cars as a last resort. They only work when you need them. Nice and small, also to take with me or in my briefcase. Requires at least 5 different battery types that I've found so far. I know Streamlight specifically says not to use Rcr123a batteries, but they work fine. Even better, it runs on 14500 batteries. Now you lose brightness when using rechargeable batteries, it is rather bright and a little less bright. The strobe still works perfectly. But definitely brighter than on cr123. I've done fairly extensive testing with it and haven't encountered any reliability issues so far. So you can run with 1AA, 1AAA, Cr123, Rcr123a and 14500. In my testing, the 800mAh 14500 runs bright for about an hour. It will then drop from about 280 lumens to about 50 lumens (unscientific measurements compared to other flashlights of known light output) over the next 30 minutes. I stop testing after 1.5 hours but expect it to just keep dimming and probably give you another 15-30 minutes of usable light. The light gets as warm as Cr123 and then cools down as the lumens decrease. The best part is that the range is slightly better compared to my Streamlight 2L-X. The 2L-X will likely still put out more lumens, but that's hard to tell in the dark. They look almost the same. This light only shines a little further, but still gives great light. This light is nice and small and the clip is perfect for a hat brim or pocket. The emitter is a slightly more neutral white, but still a cooler color. Certainly not as yellow as a zebra headlight idling. This is a nice light neutral cool white. My guess is that Streamlight doesn't advertise the battery's capabilities because they want to continue selling their Cr123 batteries. Whatever I do, it will kill the Emitter faster. Maybe both. Regardless, I have a few of these little flashlights as they have become my favorites. Stow with Cr123 for emergencies, EDC/use with 14500 and carry Cr123 with you for backup. I've had some luck with this, but I don't recommend it as you 'might' toast your light. Hasn't happened to me yet. But just to be safe.
