I bought this as a hobby scope and given the price I wasn't expecting an accurate tool that didn't even come close to the advertised 1200x magnification. . What I didn't expect was that the maximum magnification was just over 100x. The page description says 1x-1200x with zoom. Okay, I figured out that 4x digital zoom means something like 1-300x optical, and it's likely the scope is a little deceiving at high frequencies, but 250x was fine for me. Heck, even if it were 200x I wouldn't give this review a 1 star even though it's clearly nowhere near 300x. When I checked the magnification with actual measurements I got 6x on the low end and 75x on the high end. 6x was because I couldn't focus the optical tube when I cranked it up to its highest position (high = low power, low = high power). Unlike some other similar sights, focusing is not done via a wheel on the optical frame, but rather by turning a knob. When the tube was raised all the way up and I turned the focus knob, I saw the image begin to focus and then hit the knob's full stop. It wouldn't make much of a difference, maybe up to 5x, but it was just another bad design flaw. At high magnification I was able to focus well, but there was no magnification. Then we come to the zoom function. This is digital zoom, not optical zoom, so you can get the same effect by viewing the image on a big screen. Increase the screen area by four times and you get a four times larger picture. But the 4x zoom didn't come close to 4x. I measured the image again on the 7 inch display and the 4x magnification actually gave a 1.5x magnification. When the smoke cleared I got 6x - 112x as accurate as I could measure compared to 1x - 1200x in the site description and accompanying product documentation. This is unacceptable. This is too far to deserve more than one star. As for all the positives: the standard and tripod were metal, which surprised me. The microscope was held firmly in the mounting ring by two grub screws and while I was concerned that the tube would not stay at the specified height, this was an unreasonable concern, since there was a set screw that kept the tube and attached display at any distance from the target. but it looks blurry to me. I haven't tried taking pictures so I don't know how this feature works. They should change it to reflect actual performance, say it's a hobbyist's oscilloscope for numismatists and philatelists, and work on bringing the lower limit performance closer to 1x. The people who buy it will not be disappointed as it not only matches the product description but also suits the buyer's needs. Anyway, if you buy it expecting close to 1x-300x optical performance, I don't see how you won't be disappointed. Update: After posting this review, I received three emails asking me to remove the review. in exchange for a $30 Revain gift card. I responded to a third, explaining why I felt the review was correct and saying that rather than deleting my review, their product description should be changed to reflect their product's performance. Since that email dated June 13, 2021 to today, July 8, I have received 12 more emails asking me to remove my review for compensation. I believe what I wrote is an accurate description of the product so I won't remove it, but I think it's worth posting how aggressively they are trying to make this review go away.
