Doesn't work for me!

I bought this hoping for the best. I already had one from another manufacturer that was attached to a 25hp Johnson 2-stroke outboard and worked perfectly. Unfortunately the tach I had doesn't work with 3 cylinder outboards and I have now so I bought this tach. I connected it the same way as in the instructions, and all the other tachometers like that. When I started the engine and got the programming right, the readings were surprisingly very accurate. My problem is that when my outboard revs above 3900 rpm the tach drops off and starts reading 1700-1900 rpm. When I'm running 2/3 throttle my engine runs at about 3800 rpm and everything runs fine. I've tried everything I can but this tachometer doesn't work above 3900 rpm on my outboard and I'm stuck with that. I'll probably just ditch this unit and clean up the tachometer, which was made specifically for marine use.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
