How to choose the right grit and avoid clogging

Pay attention to the composition of the sediment in the main water filter before choosing the size of the pre-filter. β€’ 60 grit catches all iron flakes, grains of sand, etc. β€’ If your water contains a lot of sand, use the filter with a place to catch the sand. If there are many fine particles and your main filter is clogging too quickly, use 100 grit. β€’ 250 and 500 grit tend to clog quickly if your water has a lot of fine particles. You may need to remove and wash the filter by hand. If this happens regularly you can buy a second insert of the same size you are using - this reduces the time the water has to be turned off. Heavy rainfall can release many solid particles into the aquifer. Check your centrifugal filter after heavy rains until you know how your aquifer is doing. Check the filter weekly for the first few months after installation to see how quickly scale builds up. Depending on water quality, a flush may be necessary every few days or every few weeks. Consider adding a 1/2 NPT garden hose adapter to the flush valve. Buy a 3ft extension hose to keep it attached and keep a 5 gallon bucket of Homer nearby. It turned out that I flushed the filter rather regularly when everything was ready. High quality filters and housing. The manufacturer should provide additional guidance to help customers select the correct filter. I had to buy several sizes of filter cartridges to find out. Could have saved $60 if photos and manuals had been available.
