I bought two of these for separate aquariums and one of the tanks keeps young carp until they are ready for the pond. I noticed that there is a problem with the design as there is a thin disk shaped piece of plastic at the top where the water is thrown out. I don't understand its purpose, but koi can injure themselves if they get wedged between the glass wall and this pane, as koi like to do. The second problem is that it works fine for the first day or two, but then loses most of its performance after 1 or 2 days. You have to clean it up again and then hope that it works better, which it partly does. I've read other people have asked about this and it's due to an internal mechanism that requires you to open the motor housing and clean the inside, which will likely void your warranty. Overall I cannot recommend this product due to its general shortcomings. There are better sponge filters out there from trusted brands that don't require as much effort. I'll try to fix mine mechanically and maybe do something with that plastic disc by replacing it with PVC.
