Review on Premier Gear PG DST1639 Professional Distributor by Tim Curd

Revainrating 4 out of 5

In order to protect the warranty, it is difficult to install.

This machine is very well made and I would buy it again. I installed it in 99 Blazer 3.4 4x4. My old distributor was plastic and one ear broke off. I read reviews from other retailers and thought it would be ok to pay extra. What I didn't like was that this distributor has its own cap and rotor with stickers on the side that say "Do Not Remove or Void Warranty". I put my time markers on #1, pulled out the old distributor, my gear was worn out, but I used the markers on the distributor body and gear and put them back in. The rotor pointed, as it should be, at #6 on the old hull. Lifted and pulled out a few times. Always arrived on time. A careful inspection of the gears and marks on the new distributor and oil pump slot turned out to be the same. Added new distribution list; pulled him up. Lightly lit. You've all heard about the retraining process between crank and cam for the CPU. It doesn't work well for me and there is no setting on the distributor. Yes, you can machine a bolt hole, but you must take it to the shop and have it scanned. 150 dollars. On the way home he gave a code that said misfire at #4. Removed plug and cord and could see arcing lines on plug, cord is fine. I put a new plug in and it works much better. Thinking of voiding the warranty, I removed the cover and put the motor back to #1, the rotor pointed to 6 as it should. I thought maybe I was crazy. That's why I didn't give five stars. This will be a difficult manifold for most people to install with a cover. If you do a YouTube search about retraining a processor, you'll come across an airplane mechanic who drilled holes in his cap to see the spark jump to the cap's terminals. If you set it up correctly, then the spark jumps over. I scanned and I have a cap to see the spark and I don't think it's right. He still trips when leaving the lane. If I find that out I'll come back and update it. Much luck! It seems like a few weeks have passed; and i said i would give an update to this mailing list. It is very good! I installed it on a '99 Blazer 4x4. The drive home after the scan did not show good results. That was my problem that I found out about. My car has a four wheel drive push button switch that controls the transfer case as it should. 2 wheel or 4 wheel. It was wrong! The CPU has received information; say we're in 4 wheel low. We need to send information to the automatic transmission to change shift points. And that was a problem for me. I ordered a new dashboard switch. Much later I understood all this. My temporary fix: pull the ATC (Automatic Transfer Case) fuse; located in the engine compartment fuse box. I've never been so good. I can add that not so long ago I changed the timing chain. Now it's a real powerhouse and it shifts well.
