Works well, it is highly recommended to use only distilled water

This device works well for me. The fog is very good and the noise is not unbearable. I don't mind the hiss of a warm mist humidifier, but wouldn't want to use it in the warmer months. With no filter, I strongly recommend using only distilled water in this device. Even without hard water, this leaves a white film on almost everything in the room. It's worse on things near the humidifier, but still sticks to anything. This film is made up of minerals from the water that are atomized as the water turns into a fine mist and then settles onto anything it touches. When I first used it, I ran water through a faucet filter and this film formed. I then ran the filtered water through a jug filter and it still left a film. I did a little research and discovered that this film is actually made out of minerals found in the water. I used distilled water and it left absolutely no film. In a warm mist humidifier, minerals collect on the heating element, causing mineral build-up on the difficult-to-clean heating element. Because the cool mist humidifier simply turns the water into very fine particles, the minerals are transferred. In a warm mist humidifier, water is heated to steam, which does not tolerate minerals.
