Tascam says they designed these phones for professionals and that seems to be true. They actually have a remarkably sharp and linear response curve that I find even suitable for studio work. I read somewhere that Tascam set out to make a $100 set of headphones for about 1/3 the price and I think they more than nailed it. The flat frequency response is superior to any other headphones I have, including the rather expensive Sennheiser and Sony. In fact, the Sony MDR V6s - my previous "reference" headset - sound pretty weak and anemic by comparison. They're also light and comfortable enough to wear (although not as comfortable as the Sony) and I like the long (3m) straight cord rather than the heavy, twisted cord that pulls on the head. My only gripe is that when the cups are properly fitted over my ears, the headband doesn't touch the top of my head, but sits about 1/2 inch higher even when adjusted to the shortest position. That's unusual for me. Surprisingly, this doesn't cause any problems and the phones stay in place. I think I'll actually be ordering a second set while this deal lasts.
