I'm a dark brunette and I had to bleach my hair first, bad, and then I washed it 4 times to make sure all the bleach came out (otherwise you'll get a blue colour) . I let the product sit for about an hour. I only wash with color conditioner, I don't use shampoo. I also now add a bottle of Purple Rage to about 16 ounces of conditioner and about 4 ounces of water and apply this to dry hair for 10 minutes every two weeks (it doesn't leave a nasty mess or stain your skin if you do). it like that, which is pretty easy) and my hair stays bright purple. I only need to re-color when it's time to bleach my roots again
