Review on 🎡 Naim Uniti Atom: Premium, All-In-One Streaming Device in Compact Size by Mark Taylor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Dynamics and ease of use make it a winner

I'm a two-channel music consumer first, and in my thirty years of listening I've had plenty of inexpensive, high-quality gear. My previous setup was a Cambridge Audio Azur 851N paired with a McIntosh MA252 integrated amplifier and Klipsch Cornwall IV speakers. The 851N has great sound performance, but despite a much-improved iPhone app and Roon integration, the user interface never really captured my heart. In search of an alternative, I came across reviews of the Naim Uniti Atom. Naim is a well-respected British hi-fi manufacturer, but I couldn't usually afford it. However, Atom has both a streamer and an amplifier which intrigued me. I was skeptical that a modest 40 watts would power my Cornwall well rather than 100 watts from a Mac. However, I was proven wrong as my jaw dropped as soon as I played my first song on Atom. The music was very dynamic and I began to understand the tempo, rhythm and time (PRAT) description associated with Naim. The Atom really brought out my Cornwalls a lot better than the 851Ns, especially in terms of bass. Before the Atom I had a subwoofer to better fill in some passages in rock and classical; The Atom really showed how good the Cornwall's bass response was and I've since thrown that subwoofer away. It quickly became apparent that the Atom amp section was more than enough to get my Cornwalls singing beautifully. I forgot how efficient the Cornish are and they really don't need much power. I liked the music from my own collection as well as the Qobuz hi-res streams that were available from the front. Atom's user interface really stands out from the competition. On the top of the device is a nicely weighted backlit volume knob that just exudes quality. On the front of the unit there is a very simple display that gives you access to various analogue and digital inputs and easy control of your favorite music, whether you have a USB stick or storage device connected (connectors on the front and back). back of the device), Internet radio station, CD player, television (HDMI ARC) or streaming services such as Tidal, Spotify (integrated) or Qobuz. The screen is huge and displays album art when it's not giving you track data or being used for control. The only omission here is that the control panel looks like it should be touch sensitive, but the only thing you can do is use the buttons on the face to make changes. Naim has included a quality remote control with this unit, not only with a backlight but also with a smart backlit dial that matches the dial on the top of the amplifier. When you adjust the volume, an indicator bar appears that expands in a circle as the level increases or decreases, and the remote control shows the same indicators. Everything is easy to use and it's clear that we've put a lot of thought into making the interface intuitive and reducing the number of clicks needed to play the music you want. I never thought I would only need two devices. in my stereo setup, but that's exactly what happened when I connected the Naim Uniti Atom to my Klipsch speakers. I can't stop listening to this amazing team of American and British hi-fi tech and that's what it's all about, isn't it? I'd rather sit and enjoy music without being a software engineer. Atom is a fantastic product and we highly recommend it.
