Review on Balt Adjustable Height Monitors 23 Inch by James Ohlrogge

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Built like a tank, but trust your app! Appearances are deceptive.

This item is very heavy metal with a small plastic rim; I have no doubt that it will easily withstand the specified load. However, there are a few flaws in this product that cause me to return it. First, the Revain image is not representative of the device I received. The wall plate is different, with a two-hole oval mount (may be better for many). I was specifically looking for a rectangular plate with 4 holes. Please see the manufacturer's website link below or search on google to see the actual item. Secondly, based on the description and picture, I thought the arm was designed to allow 7 inches of movement *in one plane* ie straight up and down keeping the arm against the wall. Not so. The "height adjustment" is done by turning the hand on the first joint near the wall. An internal lever (very strong btw) allows the plate to rotate around the second hinge, keeping the same angle I believe. The crux of the matter: if the arm rotates away from the wall, this affects the viewing distance at the same time as the height. This can work for many applications, but in my case I wanted the Vesa mount display to stay as close to the wall as possible. I can't blame Amazon as such, since the packaging does not include any explicit instructions on how to adjust the height and the manufacturer's copy is also faulty. If you follow the steps to unscrew each screw, you'll know the true workings of the device, but it's a bit of full disclosure if you ask me. A simple chart showing the degrees of freedom would make this complaint unnecessary. [.] Again the item looks and feels solidly built, I have nothing against its construction just with a description and instructions.
