Review on πŸ”Œ Enhance Your Toyota's Wiring with the Metra 71-1761 87-94 Vehicle Harness! by Bob Trapp

Acceptable: Auto Electronics Accessory

I used Metra's 71-1761 kit along with the 70-1761 Fusion Wiring Harness kit to install a small Class D amp in a 2012 Toyota Install factory Rav4 radio without navigation. Good quality connectors, terminals and wires. Metra plugs mate with OEM plugs as they come from the factory. Wire length, wire color, wire markers, and precut ends are nice, but once installed, no one will notice. There are cheaper kits out there but not so cheap that you risk getting a poor quality part. The Metra wiring legend gets mixed reviews for how true it is. I think that's because the harness crosses on many platforms. It's impossible to be perfect for every application. You should always have factory wiring diagrams for the vehicle you are working on. Note. This Rav4 is not wired from the factory to turn on the power antenna or amplifier in the Pin10 connector on terminals 8 and 9. Having these wires in 70-1761 will not work on this RAV4. So I just deleted them as they are just dead weight. Toyota also sends a backlight (-) through pin 6 of the connector to terminal 5 (brown wire). I've seen other brands of wire harness kits that don't have this circuit at all. This is not a problem for aftermarket head units as they typically do not require a separate backlight (-) circuit. A Toyota factory radio is required for proper operation. It worked great the way it is because the Metra 71-1761 kit has this terminal full. *Note: You must modify Metra 70-1761 to add this circuit.
