I had no idea some Ford vehicles have what is called a 'safe cooling mode'. It turns on when the temperature gets too high. This will prevent the engine from running at dangerous levels and damaging the engine. The car's computer CAN get wrong readings from the coolant sensor and this turns on this mode, it very closely mimics a blown head gasket, the engine drops to 4 working cylinders and eventually dies. I thought I really did have a blown head gasket, yes, but it turned out to be just a sensor, very light weight and easy to replace too, cool!
