I bought the longest length because it was true to scale. Also, our home is well off the sidewalk and visible to anyone walking down our street, so anything shorter would be unobtrusive. I like the clean, modern look in contrast to our traditional home. It is good that the bottom is open, so that you can easily change and clean the bulbs. I really wanted a brushed brass finish that would contrast with the brickwork around our front doors, but I gave up my search. They were installed by my engineer husband - not sure I could do it with ease. I also bought one for our side balcony. The weak point is that the glass can easily break; it is not fat. The time will show.
