I was disappointed to learn that this replacement attaches to the dog door very differently than my old one. I inherited the door when I bought the house and it was in dire need of replacement. Upon inspecting my old door I found that it had been installed incorrectly (through a wall for which this was not mentioned) and the door sill had been replaced with a poorly made home made strip of metal with 5 new holes in the door frame. .My utility knife removed the ridge on the mounting part on one side of the new valve. A little drilling altered the new plastic bar to fit some new screws and a couple of pilot holes in the frame lined up to perfectly mount the new shield. Since there was already a permanent hole in my wall destined for this door and I had absolutely no room to expand, I had no choice but to put this valve in place to restore my door. The valve fits perfectly in the hole and is crystal clear.
