Review on Westcott IPoint Pencil Sharpener 15912 by Amanda Castillo

Great for kids

I have two school-age children so while an electric pencil sharpener is handy, I use it occasionally. We kept a small battery powered pencil sharpener on our desk where the kids do their art projects and do their homework. It does its job reasonably well, but the shavings bin is small so it needs to be emptied frequently. Unfortunately, the design is such that children cannot empty it without spilling pencil shavings all over the place. So my main requirement is that it sharpens pencils well and isn't too difficult to empty. The Acme Westcott iPoint USB Pencil Sharpener seems to fit the bill quite nicely. It's not that I use 20 pencils a day, but for a home user this is a great job. The bin is big enough that it doesn't need to be emptied often, which means I can usually get to it before the kids do. However to see how it works I let my six year old son empty it when it was full and had no problem throwing it out without making a mess. The USB cable was a small plus. The kids computer sits on top of the drawing/homework table so I can just plug it in and not worry about the batteries. It's okay, but I've got enough toys that need changing batteries, so anything that slows the countdown is fine. All in all a good sharpener for home use. Build quality doesn't look like what I would recommend for a school or any place that sharpens more than a few pencils a day. But if you're looking for something kid-friendly, this sharpener is one of the more kid-friendly options we found. Pros
  • Non-slip feet
Cons
  • So far so good
