Update (February 2014): The drive has been lying unused on my desk since my first check. Today I installed another program with this external drive and it worked fine. Then the rig "got stuck" at a certain point and the drive made a kind of clicking noise. When I took the drive out, it had streaks on the data side about 1/4 inch from the outside edge. Luckily I was able to get my internal drive working for this particular setup and whatever those strips were. It doesn't affect it. As others have said, the cord is REALLY short. I don't know what they were thinking. Haven't tried burning discs with it yet. Original review (December 2013): The CD/DVD burner caused an installation error when I tried to install the program from a CD. With this drive I was able to install the program without any problems. The computer recognized it and immediately installed the driver. it's for now, but I like that it's external so I can still use it if my computer eventually dies because I don't plan on buying more desktop towers in the future.
