A few years ago I got the OXO Tot bottle brush that we still use today. They're almost as useful. After seeing one of these at work I bought a few for the house. They're perfect for cleaning pots, pans and bowls with a really big mess so it doesn't get stuck in the dishwasher filters. Push foam through a little with a button - you can replace a piece of foam and reuse the con canister - the cleaning brush scratched my plastic insulating cup (doh!) - the balance is such that it doesn't stand on the brush, but that is not a big deal if you have some space for everything. This will definitely be an item I will always have in my kitchen.
