Not much to say here. It weighs what it says, verified by scales already calibrated, and allows you to quickly calibrate other scales without having to amass a menagerie of smaller weights. If your scale needs this weight to calibrate (I have one for 600 grams and the other for 700 grams) then of course you need it. Just store it in an airtight, padded container so it doesn't collect dust between uses, which can skew readings. I have received calibration weights in a number that differs significantly from the number stated on the label. I'm talking 5 gram weights that weighed 4 grams and stuff like that. As far as I can weigh them, these 500 gram cylinders weigh exactly what they say they do. If you need it, you need it. Just get it.
