This tripod is exactly what I expected. I think if you are going to buy 3 Legged Thing tripods, you should be concerned that you are buying something other than your regular tripod. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who saw the lackluster reviews of the early 3 Legged Thing products and when I saw them I tried to stay as far away from their tripods as possible. After some issues with Manfrotto and Benro I decided to bite the bullet and give the 3LT a try. This tripod is very light thanks to the thin carbon fiber legs and has a few tricks up its sleeve when it comes to a detachable monopod and can flatten out after removing the main stand. The thinness of the carbon fiber legs bothered me a bit when I first took them out of the box. I wasn't sure how it would handle 40 pounds or how stable it would be, but after a few days of use in windy and uneven conditions I can say I'm pleasantly surprised. This is a $280 budget tripod (given the carbon fiber with Arca-Swiss ball head) and I honestly don't think you could buy a better tripod at this price point. 3LT threw him out of the park.
