I wanted to be able to plug the lights into an outlet and have a knob/switch on the bedside table. it works great for that! The 4-post box has a 3-pin connector on the back that plugs directly into the wall. So remember that you need some space between the wall and everything in front of the sockets. When pressing the button/switch there is a slightly loud "click" from pressing the button, I wasn't expecting that but it shouldn't wake anyone up. When turned on, there is a slight delay of a second or two before power is supplied to the outlets. For our purposes, the cable between the switch and the back box proved to be long enough. In general I would recommend.
