Uniden Home Patrol 2 - Great Scanner!

I have been using scanners for almost 40 years, first when each frequency was added by inserting a crystal into the socket, and later when a keyboard for manually entering each frequency appeared. I was happy with my old analog scanner, but since most of our local radio stations had switched to digital, I couldn't hear the stations I wanted to hear. This Uniden HP2 is great as I have experience with scanners but might pose a problem for a first time scanner user. The OSD is simple and easy to use, and the only buttons you need to press are the power and volume controls on the top of the unit. For me, just entering data on the touchscreen is more convenient than on the keyboard. I have found that it is best to choose an area code rather than a city for the listening area as this limits the number of unusable peripheral area channels that are unreadable and cause static. An external antenna will likely improve range and reception, but the standard antenna picks up all the local channels I want to hear. The Sentry computer program is very useful, but again it can be a problem for the first time user of the scanner. Overall, this scanner is exactly what I wanted and I would recommend it to both experienced and novice scanner users.
