MCY Color Theory - Art, Painting & Art Supplies

These pens use purple-cyan-yellow color theory, not red-blue-yellow. That means if you want real red you need to mix magenta and yellow (the red in the set has an orange cast). If you want pure purple, mix light blue and magenta. (Using dark blue will give you a useless muddy tone.) For this reason I would strongly discourage beginners. Even with this information, I'm having a hard time coloring people without going sickly yellow, since yellow traits are very prominent in most of these colors. I feel like they are asking too much of the purple pen that I use the most. Having a true purple would really help as it is one of the best eyeshadow colors. These pens behave differently on different papers. If you use multimedia or printer paper, they may appear jagged. I've also used them on watercolor paper including 100% cotton and they match perfectly.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
