Review on ๐Ÿš˜ Dorman 265-854: High-Quality Automatic Transmission Oil Pan for Ford/Lincoln Models by Christian Byrd

Revainrating 4 out of 5

At least as good as the OEM, plus a drain plug that can leak

Dropping the transmission oil pan to change the oil almost always causes a mess. No matter how you arrange pots, cardboard, and paper towels, lying on your back in the garage can spill. But not anymore. Having replaced my Ford pan with a Dorman, all I have to do now is remove the pan when I want to change the filter, which Ford says can be reused as long as it shows no signs of fouling. Ford also says the fluid and filter should be serviced every 150,000 miles. Ha. Now I find it easy to drain about half the liquid and pour some dirt more often. I say "half the liquid" because that's coming from the drain. I know I don't do a full flush this way, but I also do it three times more than what Ford expects me to do and I think it will work in the long run. Drain plug at the bottom of the pan. I have an after sale skid plate under this pallet, but if I didn't I would be a bit worried about the possibility of scratching it on a rock. However, the pan itself is Ford sized and bolts on with ease. I am happy with the palette. I am not very happy with the included drain plug gasket. This is a copper washer and mine has been leaking since I installed it. (A few drops a day, nothing major but highly undesirable. I contacted Dorman and they recommended purchasing an oil drain plug gasket, part number 097-025.1. This gasket is a steel and rubber gasket and works much better. Alternatively, I found a 1/2 -inch soft nylon drain plug gasket off the shelf from AutoZone, which also worked. Technically it's a little small, but it worked.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Some little things
