I can't tell how they work as football braces but I use them for a plant press (to dry leaves and flowers flat for decorative purposes) and a herb rack (to dry herbs ). /flowers for culinary purposes). I use two of each to hold the layers together. They work really well - the D ring is secure and the ring itself is solid. The straps are tight and don't slip off; I can lift a fully loaded bench or rack by the straps and not worry about the straps coming loose. For my use they are perfect. And at less than $10 for four straps, it's cheaper than making my own.
